*Content warning for the speeches: suicide and sexual assault*
This is a recording of all of the speeches from the #BringThemHere rally in Melbourne, on Saturday the 30th of April.
Here is a description of the rally from the event page:
In a huge blow to the Coalition government the crowd-funded legal challenge to detention on Manus Island has succeeded. The Papua New Guinean Supreme Court has ruled that the Australian-run detention centre is illegal and unconstitutional. But Immigration Minister Peter Dutton has dug in his heels saying the 900 men "in the Manus facility will not be settled in Australia". Join this rally to tell Dutton to Close Manus, Close Nauru and #BRINGTHEMHERE
The Let Them Stay movement, including protests, workplace 'selfies' and the stand taken by doctors and health workers at Lady Cilento hospital forced Dutton to backdown on immediately returning 267 vulnerable asylum seekers and refugees to Nauru. Following on from the#LetThemStay campaign we now must demand #BringThemHere.
The PNG Supreme Court decision comes as protests have been held by those detained on both Manus Island as well as Nauru, which is nearing 40 days of continuous protests. We stand in solidarity with those protests and join the demands for freedom, security and permanent resettlement. We join the calls for an end to the threat of torture, assault, and harm. We demand that those on Manus and Nauru all be brought to safety, to the Australian mainland, to be processed fairly in the community.
